I do like the monotypes and especially the more highly contrasting colour ones (surprise to me that) but I think these two oils really have so much impact. I don't know if you meant Mario Lanza (surely you are too young, boy) but I now have his songs floating around in my head and these paintings so rich, so Italian in many ways. Getting harmony with so much colour is not easy but you have pulled it off here - that unifying black and a concentration on mid tone have helped I think. Beautiful work Don.

Too young??!! I'm probably older than you, Sheila!

You're close--I was listening to a Greek singer named Mario Frangoulis, who also sings in that operatic style and is very Mediterranean influenced.

I think you've described exactly how I try to orchestrate color, though I don't really think of it consciously. I have to say, while I love the process of monotyping, it's such a joy to return to the full range of options oil painting allows. Thanks for the nice comments.

This is my favorite for visual impact; it stopped me in my tracks while I was scanning your page as a first-time visitor. Perhaps Mario should be on your permanent playlist...?
